I love it when early spring gives way to warm, sunny days that make flowers pop out everywhere. I would go nuts (short trip) if I couldn’t garden. Too many years in apartments. I MUST garden.
I planted my sweet 100 cherry tomato plant yesterday. I always get too many, so I’m only going to grow two or three this year. I’m waiting for one or two good roma starter plants to appear at the farmers market in the next few weeks. I will either grow one cherry and one roma, two cherries and one roma, or one cherry and two romas. That is IT. My chard and Russian red kale are already up. The strawberries and raspberries are blooming. I already ate all the asparagus and am letting the final few stalks seed out. Time to pull up my winter curly kale in the front yard. My shallots are trying to bloom but not making big shallots. I’m clueless about them. But I planted some garlic for the first time and it is coming up. I will probably plant a couple of bean plants. I like growing beans.
your garden looks great!
it’s still too cold to plat here. i was thinking about planting asparagus in a container.
i don’t think my lavendar is dead from cats peeing on it. that does not make me very happy.
Your garden is Beautiful! My garden is taken over by wild fennel, I might have to poison it, even though I’ve never poisoned anything. Digging and pulling is not making it. I love young garlic greens sauteed in a little butter. Mine likes to spread without making big heads sometimes.
I love the garden. Mom can’t do much any more. She plants a few bulbs and picks a few deadheads. We have lots of ladybugs this year because I bought a bunch last year and they bred.
July will be the most spectacular month, but our roses are days away from the beginning of blooming for the summer. The hawthorne tree will be blooming soon too. It is out of this world. Last year it didn’t bloom much because it had a heavy pruning.
Hawthorn Berries are good for the heart. They help strengthen the muscles of the heart.
will cat pee kill flowers? the cats were spraying all over our flower beds last year and all my lavender died and it doesn’t look like it’s coming back this year.
Yes it will. You need to do some blocking. There are a variety of things that you can use to stop cats from spraying. A simple blockade helps. Get one of those little cheap border fences and put it up in front of the areas they spray. If they poop in your dirt, get a couple of special prickly things that you lay in the dirt. Some repellents work, but most of them don’t. Also, keep a spray bottle by the door and spray water on any cat that even gets near your plants. Eventually they will decide to go elsewhere.
Love the garden and I am SO glad it’s spring here in PA. Herbs can go hogwild. Dig up that crazy stuff and share it with friends, then add the barrier 🙂
I have many plants that are out of control. I just came inside a while ago, complaining that the calendula is taking over and is all in the wrong places. Plus my grasses and knautia (sp) are completely out of control, and the darn nasturtium is already trying to take over. It’s a jungle out there and summer isn’t even here yet. *tears out a chunk of hair and puts a calendula seedling in its place*
